There was a moment when I thought I might cheerfully superannuate my way through a gentle beekeeping era. Litter picking on the beach by Carlingford Lough. Rewatching The West Wing and old Doctor Who and mainlining Radio 4. Who was I kidding? So I’m looking for the third act of my crazy-paving career.
I’ve spent most of my professional life working where community, technology and storytelling meet. I was part of the early team at eBay UK during the chaotic early years of online marketplaces, and edited Tamebay, writing about ecommerce, platforms and the people trying to build something within them. Alongside that has always run another thread: writing, Shakespeare, and the craft of narrative itself. I’m currently studying for a Creative Writing MA, deepening a lifelong fascination with writing and structure, voice and character. The masters is centred on novel-writing and mine is underway. (There are already several decent stabs in the digital desk drawer.) The gay screwball romcom with a Westminster political backdrop that absolutely nobody has been clamouring for is called Politics XYZ. Or maybe Modern Idiots in homage to Taylor Swift.
Expect oddities, amusements and small mysteries. Shakespeare and litterpicking. Piers and politics. Digital culture and the poetry of everyday life. Nothing too finished. Just curiosity, momentum, and the quiet practice of noticing things sometimes.
